IPMEN 2023 Draft Program

Formal conference sessions will be held at Ocean Networks Canada (ONC) at the University of Victoria on Vancouver Island, BC with delegate accommodation available in the nearby student housing at the University of Victoria (UVic dorms). The following is a draft program for IPMEN 2023 and may change with the final program available by early July 2023. 

Monday July 17th: Arrival in Victoria

  • All delegates should arrive on Vancouver Island BC see Travel to and from Victoria for details. 
  • 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm – check-in to accommodation at UVic dorms plus conference registration.
  • 6.00 pm – conference welcome function.
  • First night in conference accommodation (UVic dorms), see IPMEN 2023 Accommodation.  

Tuesday July18th: Conference Day 1 

  • 9.00 am to 9.30 am – conference registration at conference venue ONC.  
  • 9.30 am to 12.00 pm – Strand 1: linking TEK & Ocean Literacy (ocean voyaging).
  • 12.00 pm to 1.30 pm – lunch (and networking) at ONC conference venue. 
  • 1.30 pm to 4.00 pm –  Strand 2: linking TEK & Ocean Literacy (tsunamis). 
  • 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm – virtual Talanoa (web-based forum). 
  • Second night in conference accommodation (UVic dorms).  

Wednesday July 19th: Conference Day 2 

  • 9.00 am to 1.00 pm – field trip – TEK themed half-day voyage. 
  • 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm – lunch (venue yet to be confirmed). 
  • 2.30 pm to 5.00 pm – conference workshops (all strands). 
  • 7.00 pm – formal conference dinner at First Peoples House, University of Victoria. 
  • Third night in conference accommodation (UVic dorms). 

Thursday July 20th: Conference Day 3

  • 9.00 am to 12.00 pm – Strand 4: exemplary programs that link TEK to Ocean Literacy.  
  • 12.00 pm to 1.00 pm – lunch at ONC conference venue.   
  • 1.00 pm to 1.30 pm – IPMEN forward planning meeting – 2024 to 2030. 
  • 1.30 pm to 4.00 pm – Strand 3: protocols for meaningful engagement presentations.
  • 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm – virtual Talanoa (web-based forum). 
  • Fourth night in conference accommodation (UVic dorms).  

Friday July 21st: We are planning to provide NMEA 2023 conference delegates with a travel package from Victoria BC to Bellingham WA (see Travel to and from Victoria for details) while other delegates will retrace their steps home.
